Challenge
A major producer of agricultural seed products had an ambitious goal to complete an expansion of one of its seed corn processing facilities in a matter of months. Quantum's role was to provide a new plant wide control system that would allow the operations people to control and monitor all aspects of production, from any area of the facility. The proposed system would have over 2,800 I/O, six SCADA nodes and preconfigured motor control centers to control over 500 motors. Interface to a wide variety of OEM supplied equipment was a key aspect of the project. Additionally, a unique need required that bilingual alarms be issued audibly in key areas of the facility to increase the speed at which operators could respond to production problems.

Provide improved process control, improved system monitoring and EPA emissions compliance logging and reporting at a Fortune 1000 Chemical Manufacturer's Northwest Indiana Plant. Special integration requirements included Modbus communications with a product storage level monitoring system and serial communication with a gas chromatograph for plant emissions monitoring.

Challenge
Upgrade CNC controls and improve the maintainability and reliability of a large four axis milling machine. The system had the original control package dating back tothe early 1980s. The upgrade presented many challenges due to the vintage of the machine and the fact that it had been moved several times and much of the installation detail was either unavailable or incorrect.
